History
Naramata Inn, located in the Okanagan region of British Columbia, Canada, has a rich history dating back to the early 20th century. It was built in 1908 by John Moore Robinson, an entrepreneur and founder of several communities in the region. Originally known as the Naramata Hotel, the building quickly became a cultural and social centre, hosting concerts, plays, operas and other events.
The name “Naramata” has an interesting history. According to one version, Robinson chose it after a seance in which an “Indian chief” mentioned to his wife “Narramattah”, interpreted as “Manitou’s smile”. This story reflects the fascination of the time with the supernatural and adds a mystical touch to the origin of the name.
Today, Naramata Inn has been renovated and modernized, yet retains its historic charm. It offers a unique experience with its mission-style rooms, stunning views, and a restaurant noted for its focus on local produce. The inn remains a popular destination for those seeking a quiet, cultural getaway in the heart of Okanagan wine country.
